Energy Effeciency and Skylights
The name of our company, FreeLite, originates with the 'miracle' property of hyper-transparent (white translucent) acrylic that favors information over heat. That is, white acrylic transmits more light than heat, unlike all other field measured glazings, including ALL Energy Star windows and glass skylights.
If you give up the view, the light is free with sufficiently pigmented white acrylic glazing, hence FreeLite. Adding a layer of Lambertian diffusing white translucent acrylic always reduces heat more than light. Generally, if it's too bright, it's too hot, and if it's too hot, it's too bright - not enough 'clear' pigments added to the clear acrylic. FreeLite guarantees the light to heat ratio of your choice with white acrylic glazing. White acrylic discriminates for light against heat – the greatest energy efficiency and solar power product yet invented. Perfect light (Lambertian diffusers scatter light evenly in all directions) along with the least heat possible for that perfect light. FreeLite has successfully guaranteed free light since the late '70's with white acrylic glazing.
FreeView remains false advertising today, as it has always been. All views cost energy; energy saving 'coatings', tints, and 'Argon gas', cost more light than save heat in all field measured studies (the principal reason for so few field measured studies.) There are no energy efficient TRANSPARENT glazings. None, nada, no such thing. Energy Star is a pay to play scheme rewarding payers/players. FreeLite guarantees adding white acrylic to your 'E*' heat machine will improve light quality while effectively halting the heat. FreeLite fixes DoE/EPA/Energy Star foul ups (for fees). Our customer list can cement your class action lawsuit.
Tait Solar out of Scottsdale, AZ, under contract with the New Buildings Institute for the state of California, twice measured a range of fenestration product glazings for light/heat performance in the 1990's. Both studies rebuked LBNL/DoE/NFRC/EPA/Energy Star window efficiency metrics SHGC and U factors. Both studies overwhelmingly demonstrated white acrylic glazing's prejudice for information (light) over heat, contrasted with impartial (pre-weathered) white polycarbonate (Lexan), and prejudice for heat over light by transparent tinted and/or coated glazings. (The original data was published as CEC-500-03-082-A27-5.x.x where x.x represents the several glazing material performance aspects investigated. NBI's website has promised to republish the SHGC and U factor metric destroying data in December since silently retracting it in November, 03, shortly after report completion.)
If you insist on a view, only darkening will do, and you'll lose more light than save on heat. FreeView is such a friendly little lie. FreeLite guarantees all its products and services too perform as promised. Customers holding us to our word have made FreeLite 'America's de facto window and skylight product performance experts'.
Accountability breeds different standards than anonymity. Give up the view and get some free, perfectly diffused light. Or let us darken your view the minimal amount necessary to reduce the heat effects. FreeLite sells persistence, not perfection. We want to help you max/min your skylights' performance parameters.
FreeLite offers the best possible light quality for less heat than any field measured light source with white acrylic. FreeLite is America's customer certified, de facto energy efficiency expert. Accountability ensures our validity.
